Multiple Streams of Income = Freedom!
(c) 2002 by Cheryl Williams Levey, http://www.cherylsweb.com
It's not the traditional 9-to-5, work for someone else and struggle your whole life to retire on partial pay and hope its enough until you die kind of job.
If you're lucky, you have the 9-5 Mon-Fri shift. I know lots of people working swing shifts and bizarre hours, lots of them without even a set schedule, but at the whim of their employers, at dead-end, go nowhere jobs doing menial repetitive things. And most of them make lousy salaries.
Ugh. Not for me, thank you.
I looked for years for a way out, a way past my own fear of not earning enough--regularly--to cover the responsibilities that had become part of my life (you know the ones: kids, mortgage, car payments, etc).
And then I found the answer, and it is truly incredible!
Instead of working one J.O.B. (just over broke), I work lots of jobs. It gives me variety so I never get bored. I choose what to work on and as a result, I love my work!
This is called multiple streams of income.
Does that sound like the opposite of what you've no doubt grown to expect from these "work in your jammies at home online" kinds of sites? Lots of them promise riches without effort and early retirement, etc.
Ha. It's only funny when I don't think of all the people who actually buy that.
But back to the point of multiple streams of income.
Lots of jobs = lots of paychecks.
That's right--instead of collecting one paycheck from one employer, you get paid from several different sources. Think financial diversity and then think financial security.
If one dries up, the others keep you floating. Sometimes you can float on a really nice boat too :)
Seriously, what it means is that you choose a few things you love and find a way to make money at them. At least one thing should have the potential for high earnings. The combination of your different income streams will bring enough income to set you free from the job you want to escape.
Think about it. If you need to make a minimum of $50,000 a year, isn't it a lot easier to figure out how to earn $10,000 in a whole year from five sources, than to worry about bringing in that 50K from one place?
I can imagine your brain cranking right now! Mine did the same thing when I first realized this.
My online streams of income include freelancing, affiliate programs, sales of my own stuff, providing online services, and more. And that doesn't even include my offline stuff.
It takes some time to build, but once it reaches a certain point, it's truly liberating!
